{Stairway Designs: A Statement Feature in Your Home

Staircases play a important role in linking different levels of a space, offering both practicality and visual appeal. From modern designs to classic styles, stairway designs come in a variety of styles to fit any space. Whether you’re working with a compact area or a spacious space, there’s a staircase design to suit your requirements.

{Why U-Shaped Staircases Are a Favoured Option

A U-shaped staircase includes two flights that run parallel, connected by a landing that makes a 180-degree turn. This design is often found in large homes or public spaces with ample vertical room. This style is unexpectedly space-saving, making it a functional choice for spacious spaces. The central landing provides a place to take a break and can be enhanced with seating. U-shaped staircases embody sophistication and are often seen in opulent or rustic interiors.

{Curved Stairs: Combining Elegance and Utility

These stairway designs are known for their sophisticated, flowing design that curves seamlessly upward. Unlike Spiral staircases, Curved designs offer a more open ascent. The detailed construction of Curved stairway designs makes them more costly than other types. Despite the cost, the result is a stunning structural element that elevates any interior.

{Floating Staircases: Enhancing Contemporary Design

Floating staircases, also known as cantilevered stairs, are a contemporary and clean design that creates the effect of steps "floating" in mid-air. The hovering effect is created by anchoring the treads to a wall, removing the need for visible structures. This style is often used in modern interiors to create a sense of openness. The simple look of Floating staircases ensures that other decorative elements, such as lighting, can become focal points. Although striking, Floating stairway designs must be carefully engineered to maintain security.

{Spiral Staircases: Perfect for Tight Areas

Spiral staircases are recognised for their space-saving, spiral design with a helical axis. This design is perfect for small spaces, such as outdoor areas, where a standard stair might not fit. The use of materials like glass allows for a variety of options in Spiral stairway designs. While they are efficient, Spiral staircases can be difficult for those with mobility limitations or carrying big items. Spiral staircases are favoured for their creative design, which adds personality to any space.

Bifurcated stairs are a impressive and balanced design often seen in mansions or luxury venues. Bifurcated staircases are recognised for their main flight that branches into two at a platform, frequently curving in contrasting angles. The layout provides a symmetrical and balanced aesthetic, often decorated with ornate balustrades or chandeliers. Newcastle City Council said more than 3,000 homes and 57 block of flats have staircases with horizontal guarding which can pose a risk to children climbing up the panels and either falling or becoming trapped.

The authority said the design, now banned under modern building standards, was a category one hazard under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
